Ivo Boblan is Professor of Humanoid Robotics (B-HROB) at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences and Technology (BHT) since October 2016 and heads the Compliant Robotics Laboratory (CoRoLab). His research focuses on the modeling and control of compliant robotic systems and exoskeletons, as well as on data-driven learning of the walking dynamics of two- and four-legged walking robots.
He studied automation technology with a focus on control engineering and robotics in Dresden and Berlin. After two years of professional experience in industry, he returned to academia and received his doctorate in 2009 from the Technical University of Berlin (TUB) with a dissertation on the modeling and control of pneumatic muscle actuators in humanoid robot systems. From 2014 to 2016, he heads his BMBF junior research group MTI-engAge at the TUB, where he investigated the intuitive socio-technical interaction between humans and robot assistance systems in the context of demographic change.
He is author of numerous peer-reviewed publications in high-ranking scientific journals (Google Scholar), a reviewer for scientific journals, a member of several guideline committees, and he has secured more than 15 nationally funded research projects (funding volume of >10 million €). He is the spokesperson for the Humanoid Robotics and Human-Machine Interaction (HARMONIK) research network at the BHT, which coordinates interdisciplinary research on humanoid robotics and human-robot interaction.
